If hard water is used, its minerals will settle at high temperatures and adhere to pipes, water jackets and radiator cores to produce scale and reduce heat dissipation. Hard water containing more minerals needs to be softened before it can be added to the cooling system. The common method of softening hard water is to add 0.5-1.5g sodium carbonate to 1L of water.
